Think of Pantone in print: if you want a specific brand color, you don't guess. You reference a standard. In lighting, the equivalent is CCT (degrees Kelvin) and CRI (or TM-30 for more detail). If someone tells you "warm white" is good enough, you're leaving quality to chance.
6. Check certifications before you sign the PO
Last step: certifications. UL listed, Energy Star, DLC, and local codes (like Title 24 in California). I made the mistake once of accepting a "certification pending" document because the price was great. The inspector flagged it during final approval, and we had to either pay for an alternate fixture or wait for rework. That was the $890 mistake plus a three-day delay.
