Replace the Fixture or Retrofit the Bulb? An Emergency Lighting Specialist's Honest Comparison

When a chandelier in a hotel lobby dies at 4 p.m. on a Thursday, and the grand opening is Saturday morning, you don't have time for elegance. You have two options: replace the whole fixture, or retrofit the existing one with a compatible LED bulb and driver.

Fixture replacement

A new fixture is a clean slate: new driver, new hardware, guaranteed fit. But rewiring introduces unknowns—junction box placement, dimmer compatibility, load limits. LED retrofit

Retrofits live or die by matching. The decision rule: when to replace, when to retrofit

If the existing driver can be matched with a known-good equivalent, retrofit. If the optical job demands specific beam geometry or spectrum, replace.
